A Little Intro

It is a journey, this life. It is the commitment we made to the heavens to live this life, return to the ego, our human form. Encountering new people, i am stumbling through this life making my mark and letting the world know I was here. This is my life, my journey, my love. This is mine. Carpe Diem.

Exploding Carrots Description

In the exploding carrots lab, we learned how to put images into other images as "background" type images. To do this we placed the carrots then the dynamite stick on a new canvas. Then we rotated the dynamite stick to line up with the carrots and placed it in the proper place. By using the opacity and fill we made the dynamite stick become semi-transparent and using the eraser tool, erased all of the dynamite that covered the carrots. Then we selected the stick and adjusted the hue and saturation and the color balance to make it blend and give it the ultimate TNT feel. After this we used the burn and dodge tools to add shadows and highlights. After some careful consideration we had TNT lying dormant within an innocent bunch of carrots. Pretty cool huh?

Parent's Weekend at SMS !!

So this parents weekend has been pretty amazing. Yesterday, the entire school community gathered to dedicate the Rebecca Ann McGill Memorial "Gazubi" Gazebo. The skies cleared up and the sun came out for a beautiful dedication ceremony. Mimi and Dave gave a wonderful speech and Beckie's minister came and gave a wonderful blessing ceremony to the gazebo. Since the Gazebo's arrival kids and staff alike have been sharing memories in the gazebo. It is a great place for everyone to go and sit with their classmates and teachers and just talk about their crazy lives. Some teacher are even conducting classes out there ! After the ceremony, all the kids and adults went into the gazebo; it fits quite a lot of happy people. After the dedication there was a reception in the Library for the adults while the students prepareed for the Undergraduate Awards Dinner. The sophomores were all dressed in white and tan to serve the meal. The night was great with many students going home with wonderful well earned awards. It was my last Undergrad dinner, Seniors 2011 !!!

WWF Rainforest Ad

On Friday in digital media we re-created a WWF ad about the trees in the rain-forests and jungles. To make this ad we had to use Photoshop CS4 to manipulate the photos and make trees have the appearance of cheetah and tigers.

To start off we placed the rainforest image in the palette and used the pen tool to outline the trees we wanted to re-texture. After that was done, we placed the texture over the tree, selected the path and in-versed the selection so that all of the extra design was erased except for the parts on the tree. Then using the burn and dodge and blur tools we touched up the photos so they would blend in. Then in a jif I put in the writing and the logo and was all done. Pretty simple really.

The hardest part about the ad was making the texture look as natural as possible. I spent a good amount of time burning shadows and dodging highlights into the trees. Overall it was a pretty cool way to change up a photo !

Photoshop CS4

So the digital media class began learning how to use photoshop this week and as you can see its getting pretty intense. Photoshop comes in handy a lot. If you have a dark picture you can brighten it up. Someone you don't like? Cut'em out using the clone stamp tool. The possibilities are endless with Photoshop and CS5 is making a huge splash as well with tons of updated new tools and photo manipulation ideas. I am pretty pumped to use photoshop to edit my pictures and add that perfect artistic touch to my photography. Being able to manipulate photos gives photographers so much more room to personalize their photos and make a strong point.Photoshop is really revolutionizing the media of today; get on the web today and take CS4 or any other great Adobe products for a test drive at adobe.com !

Feeling Lucky?

So I took time to check out google and see what all the comotion is about with this simple search engine. Well "simple search engine" is an understatement and the guys at google are working hard to make it more than a search engine. Google allows for a person to use search shortcuts like define:____ to immediately get dictionary results. Or weather:(zip code) to instantly have weather updates in that area. Google is simplifying search everyday. Google has taken "surfing the web" to a whole new level with its innovative technology allowing users to get the most and best from their search query. Google does not bombard surfers with Ads either. Ads on google pages are selected to be relevant to a search query, no more spam ads about nothing. If you search for islands, you will see ads of beautiful island hotels that maybe the next stop on your summer vacation. So, have you ever used the " I'm Feeling Lucky" link? Google is so confident in its premier search results that if you enter a query into the search bar and select "i'm feeling Lucky" they will lead you to the first page on the search results; also known as the top result for your query. Google has no limits so keep searching and google will keep improving!

Some Analytics

Google Analytics is probably one of the most interesting site I have ever visited. There is so much crazy stuff you can find on there. The statistics are insane. Google Analyitcs allow for a user to keep track of all of his/her website info from total views to the geographic location of the IP address that accessed the page. It was extremely interesting to see the charts of the Stratton Mountain School website. The views were really los while the kids were on spring break and as soon as school started again, the page views skyrocketed as every student accessed his/her portal to view the homeowork that they procrastinated on until the day before school! Google Analytics is super important for users because it can show them which pages are viewed the most which can help them to keep these pages interesting and by showing the least; can give them a heads up on what they need to change to bring more views. so for any blogger or page owner out there definately set up a Google Analytics account and prepare to be amazed !

Beep test and Nikons

Beep test tomorrow. That is porbably the worst thing an Alpiner at SMS can hear. Its really starting to get to me. Morgan and I have been obsessing over it. I ate 3 bananas at dinner;kind of a potassium overload haha-whatever if it helps. What is making me happy is the thought of my new camera. The Nikon d5000...so pumped. Just sold my p90 for 3 hundo to my good friend. My mom also made a deal with me, if i score over a 2100 on my SAT bam...18-200 Nikkor zoom lens VR. Need to prep up because that lens is so sweet. I have been obsessing over that camera now for days. I can't wait to go home and get it all set up. I am so amped. Photography is a great hobby to get lost in...its just kind of hard to keep money from getting lost too ! I am excited to get into photography though; there is so much to learn about. To think of it, it like learning a new language with all the settings and types of modes to shoot in. I have got a lot to learn but I like a good challenge. Mena and I are going to take this one head on. Her SB-600 comes in in 5 days and when cameras are hard enough adding a speedlight just adds a whole nother dimension of comfusion !! Well, the more the better !

Not Just Another Status Update...

What are you doing? in 140 characters or less is the question on the lips of every "tweep" in the "twitterverse". But what makes Twitter so addicting and easy for the outside world, the average people? Twitter gives the common man a chance to tell the world what he is doing, put himself out there. It is a site for the unheard to be heard. Twitter is growing at a rapid pace and some non-twitter users are flabbergasted. They cannnot see what all the chirp is about,"its just another pointless status site". Twitter is not just another status update. It allows the world to interact with each other. See that there are other people out there just like them. Twitter has become a great site for promoting ideas and events such as music concerts and political canidates like John Edwards. All you have to do is embrace the question they ask. You speak and people will listen. Grab a computer, pull up the page, and join the rush. Welcome to the Twitterverse; What are you doing?

Builiding a Blog

So I just blew a whole night on setting up this blog, wow this is addicting! While I was sitting here and writing my info I stopped and thought to myself, "my life is crazy" and well the truth is...it is ! SAT's are may 1st and I starting to get really nervous. Here we go, 11 years of schooling all add up to this freaking test...this is asinine. but anyway. I am pretty nervous, cannot wait till that is over. So on top of that, the alpine team has physical testing on monday and beep test is scheduled for monday morning at 6am (if you dont know what beep test is google it). I cant stand physical testing. I just found out today that our new snoboarding program director is Olympian Ross Powers, thats pretty cool! Well its getting pretty late here so I gotta catch some zzz's. -xoxo
